Ode to Children's Television

Oh DJ Lance,
how do I love thee
with your bright orange jumpsuit
and hat oh-so-fuzzy?
You say dancing is awesome
and sometimes sound Jamaican,
I am not sure why,
but my heart is achin'!

I am confused yet intrigued
by these strangely shaped beings
Tootie's a cat-dragon?
What are these things?
And though Foofa is pink
and Muno is red,
I can't ever get those
crazy songs out of my head!

More songs that are catchy
and dance moves so grand
can always be found
with the Fresh Beat Band.
Making me crave smoothies
and full of instruments galore,
surely guarantees
this show's not a bore.

The actors can pretend
better than most
that they can actually play
the instruments they boast!
Not bad singers
and dancers to boot.
And it certainly doesn't hurt
that Twist is kind of cute.

This morning I thought
to put my feelings in verse,
as I tried to lose
the songs stuck like a curse.
So, a shout out to Moms
who watch TV with their spawn.
I know I'm not the only one
who secretly loves Nickelodeon.

  1. Love it. And so glad to hear that the Fresh Beat Band makes another person crave smoothies.

And yes, those songs are so dang catchy. I'm quite partial to Loco Legs, myself.
